Social media marketing can be tricky and sometimes stressful because it requires patience, consistency, and of course, our favorite – creativity. Let’s face it, not every therapist can afford a marketing specialist in their team, or perhaps you simply prefer to do it yourself.

You may be a very patient person and have absolutely no problem with staying consistent, however when it comes down to creativity – your brain freezes. Don’t worry, let me present to you 5 ways how you can be more creative on social media as a therapist.

1. Color scheme

Choose your color theme and stick to it. Being consistent with the chosen color scheme on your social media platforms will benefit your business just as much as doing so on your website. Colors define your brand in many ways. That’s what makes it memorable and recognizable by your potential clients in the future. So don’t hesitate to spend some time coming up with the posts that have your signature colors.

Pro tip: I recommend creating a few different kinds of posts using the same (or similar) color scheme. You do want to change them up from time to time to avoid monotony.

2. Short videos

Incorporate short videos. If you haven’t noticed it yet, major platforms like Instagram (Reels) and YouTube (Shorts) now have an option to post short videos. This trend was initially started by TikTok. Short videos are a simple way to be creative because they don’t take too much time. All you need is yourself and (obviously) your phone to film.

Pro tip: You also have an option to use GIFs, stickers, and music while editing your videos. It may take a little longer, but since videos are short, it’s still going to be within a reasonable time range.

3. Infographics

Create infographics. Infographics can help you explain more difficult concepts using visuals. It’s important to remember, that when it comes down to posts, you want to provide your reader with some kind of valuable information. However long complex texts can be hard to read and understand, needless to say, remember. That’s when infographics come into place.

Pro tip: You can utilize services like Canva to create social media posts.

4. Be yourself, be real as a therapist on social media

Show vulnerability. You don’t need to expose yourself and your life too much. However social media was initially invented for people to connect. What is a better way to connect than showing that you are a human being and have feelings and emotions, just like anyone else?

I think a lot of times there is this misconception that therapists/counselors don’t struggle as much as other people, that they have their lives under control. So their pages may look a little too formal, not very personal.

Pro tip: I recommend therapists who use social media for the promotion of their services brainstorm ideas on how they could expose some of their vulnerabilities without giving themselves away too much.

Sometimes it’s a good idea to use social media as a journal. Feeling overwhelmed or discouraged by something? Grab your phone and share it on social media. It will make your account more relatable to your audience.

5. Be fun and funny as a therapist on social media

Lastly, use humor. Don’t be afraid to act silly sometimes. It shows your authenticity and again, makes you more relatable to your audience. You can film yourself dancing or making funny faces while presenting information in short videos, use memes for your posts, or tell a joke. If you have a good sense of humor it can be a wonderful addition to your profile.

So here are my 5 tips. I hope you found this article helpful. Let me know if you have any ideas or questions. I will try to answer them to the best of my ability.
